English Village? No, I prefer to call it Kampung Inggris. (March 10-23, 2014)

My Mas and I decided to take an IELTS course (or a preparation class for IELTS) in Kampung Inggris on the period of March 10, 2014. FYI, the courses usually begin at 10 and 25 every month. Yes, it lasts for only 2 weeks. Well, there are more than a hundred courses in Kampung Inggris including English, Arabic, Chinese etc. courses. So, how to choose where to study at? First, of course decide what is your purpose and what do you have to study about. After that, you can search what courses offer that and choose one.

We decided to take the course offered by Global English. The website was quite helpful. I applied online, transferred the required fee to their bank account and sent a confirmation via SMS. Easy, right? :)) Actually I planned to take a course for a month. But when I knew that all courses are only for 2 weeks (taking a course for a month means taking a course/courses twice), I decided to take the course for only a period, 2 weeks. Why? Because I just wanted to take one class, IELTS class. And somehow I just didn't want to repeat the same class. I also didn't want to take another class such as Speaking, Listening and Vocabulary classes etc. The fee was Rp. 500,000.00 for IELTS class (counted as 3 credits) and hostel for a period. Cheap? Yes you can say so. But, as we knew, ono rego ono rupo. Haha. The class was not well-equipped like the courses we might knew before. My class was a 4-sessions-per-day class, each session took 90 minutes, 7-10 am and 1-4 pm from Monday to Friday. We could freely study, take a stroll or travel to wherever on Saturday and Sunday.

These are some points about living in Kampung Inggris:
1. Bicycle. You can rent a bicycle if you want to, most students rent bicycle to go to their classes. The rental cost varies from Rp. 50,000.00 to Rp. 85,000.00 (not the precise range, hehe).
2. Eatery. Many. Low to middle priced. Oh, there are sooo many pentol sellers, you can find them almost everywhere. Haha. Want some recommendations for the eatery? :D
    a. Ketan Susu a.k.a. Tansu, near Daffodils. Rp. 2,500.00.
    b. An-Nur at Glagah St. near the bridge (you will know this bridge when you are already there). Rice and vegetable dishes cost around Rp. 3,500.00. :))
    c. Bali House 1  (after an alleyway across Saigon) & 2 (a.k.a. Roseville, also after an alleywall near Alaska), nice place and middle priced meal.
    d. Bu Tin, between Daffodils and Tansu. The roasted chicken is delicious, around Rp. 7,000.00.
    e. Wakapo. Quite good. Low priced.
Note: The meals are commonly cheap, but you may spend quite much on drinks/beverages. To save more, always bring your own fresh water to the class and eatery. :))
